Here are some tips to help you get started:
- To sign your posts (on talk pages, for example) use the '~' symbol. To insert just your name, type ~~~ (3 tildes), or, to insert your name and timestamp, use ~~~~ (4 tildes).
- Try the Tutorial, and feel free to experiment in the test area.
- If you need help, post a question at the Help Desk
- Follow the Wikipedia:Simplified Ruleset
- Eventually, you might want to read the Manual of Style and Policies and Guidelines.
- Remember Wikipedia:Neutral point of view
- Explore, be bold in editing pages, and, most importantly, have fun!
Good luck!
Copyvio at Elizabeth Plater-Zyberk
[edit]Hi,
You copy and pasted some text from www.cnu.org to your new article Elizabeth Plater-Zyberk. You're not allowed to do this unless the text you copy from has explicitly been released into the public domain or licensed under the GFDL. See Wikipedia:Copyrights for details.
I marked the article "copyvio" in the meantime. Please replace the text with some non-copyright-violating text, if you'd like the article to remain. Thanks -- Tempshill 22:18, 1 Oct 2004 (UTC)
- Thanks for the heads-up. I'll work on getting copyright permission. I did the same thing with the Andres Duany article, so if you want you can mark that copyvio for the time being (I don't know hwo, yet). LaurenceJA 22:42, 1 Oct 2004 (UTC)
- Click 'edit this article' at that article to see how the copyvio tag was added. (Sorry I don't know how to just type it here without actually inserting the copyvio tag.) Though hopefully you don't have to do this very often to your own articles! Thanks -- Tempshill 01:26, 2 Oct 2004 (UTC)
Redirect
[edit]#redirect [[title]] not # redirect [[title]]. With a space it does not work. 62.252.64.12 22:08, 20 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Point of view.
[edit]LaurenceJA,
The statements I deleted (and you subsequently restored) from the New Urbanism article:
- New urbanist developers must get better at making their neighborhoods affordable. New urbanists also must prove, over time, that their ideas are superior for both revitalizing old cities and towns and building new communities.
were statements that I personally believe have a point of view. Such statements are discouraged on Wikipedia. See: Wikipedia:POV.
These statements do not necessarily need to be deleted but should at least be changed so that they sound less like opionions and more like facts. For example, instead of:
- New urbanist developers must get better at making their neighborhoods affordable.
Consider:
- Critics charge that new urbanist developers must get better at making thier neighborhood affordable.
If you have any questions or disagree, please feel free to contact me by using my talk page.
Best regards, Short Verses (talk) 17:13, Jun 15, 2005 (UTC)
- I apologize. Simply deleting the statements were not a good decision on my part. Would it be okay with you if I reworded the statements while keeping the original meaning? Regards, Short Verses (talk) 20:24, Jun 16, 2005 (UTC)
Unreferenced BLPs
[edit]Hello LaurenceJA! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 4 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:
- Andrés Duany - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL
